2026 Grant Vote Information and Ballot

Please submit your ballot by 5:00 PM on Friday, October 30

As we prepare to vote on our 2026 grants, we want to share some thoughts to help guide your decision-making.

This year, we have $75,000 available to award, and each of our three applicants has requested a $50,000 grant. Traditionally, we have awarded a primary grant and distributed the remaining funds through a secondary grant. This year, however, we have some additional considerations.

All three applicants are respected organizations doing important work in our community. However, our responsibility is to evaluate not just the organizations themselves, but how effectively their specific grant proposals will advance our 2026 focus on maternal physical and mental health.

As we reviewed the applications, site visit findings, and presentations, questions emerged about the extent to which some of the proposed projects would meaningfully expand or enhance services in our chosen focus area. This does not diminish the valuable work these organizations already do, but it does raise important questions about where our grant dollars can have the greatest impact.

We recognize that reviewing all the materials takes time, but we encourage you to consider several key questions as you make your decisions:

  • How directly does the proposed project address maternal physical or mental health?

  • What new or expanded services would our funding make possible?

  • How significant and measurable would the impact be?

  • Does the proposed use of the funds justify the investment?

We also want to remind you that we have flexibility in how we distribute our $75,000. We could award the full amount to one organization, divide it between two organizations, or choose not to distribute all of the available funds this year. Our traditional approach of making primary and secondary grants is not necessarily the best solution every year.

Our goal is not simply to give away the money we have raised, but to make thoughtful investments that will have a meaningful and lasting impact on our community.

Ultimately, these decisions belong to you, our partners. We are not recommending a particular outcome, but we do want everyone to approach this year's vote with a clear understanding of the choices and considerations involved.

It’s now time for you to vote.

Please fill out and submit the following ballot by October 30th. Note that your first, second, and third choices must be different organizations.

We need to hear from you by 5:00 PM on October 30th. If you have any questions, please contact Blake Caldwell (blakecaldwell0@gmail.com) or Jean Ahrens (jeanrahrens@gmail.com).

Also, we hope you will be able to join us for the grant presentation on November 11th at 4:00 PM at the home of Nina Altschiller, 604 Barnard Street.

Thank you for the care and thought you bring to this process and for your continued commitment to SPP.
