  • Savannah Philanthropic Partners

Savannah Philanthropic Partners (SPP), is a Giving Circle founded in 2021 by four Savannah women, Jean Ahrens, Lorraine Boice, Sheila Grossman and Linda Huntoon.

In its inaugural year, we focused on organizations that were providing services to children affected by the pandemic and awarded a grant of $30,000 to Loop It Up Savannah. In 2022, the focus was on teens and young adults and the epidemic of suicide, often caused by depression and awarded $50,000 to Chatham County Safety Net Planing Council. In 2023, our focus will be organizations who are working to prevent and mitigate violence against females and we will once again give $50,000 to the grant recipient.

Since its inception, the Circle has grown to include new members who have similar visions of giving to the community’s most needful causes through the nonprofit organizations that assist them.

  • What is a Giving Circle?

SPP’s Giving Circle is a form of participatory, flexible philanthropy where people donate their money to a common tax-deductible fund, target a need and grant money to a chosen nonprofit organization that is working to aid in alleviating that need.

Giving Circles have provided billions in charitable, individually committed monetary gifts. They are democratic, grassroots, bottom-up alternatives to top-down philanthropy, and 100% of the collected funds go toward a chosen nonprofit or program, eliminating operational expenses
